What are the differences between gearboxes, transfer cases, gearboxes and transmission boxes

Nov 12,2025

The transmission box, also known as the gearbox, has significant differences in function and structure from other equipment.

Firstly, when it comes to functional differences, the transmission box is mainly responsible for controlling the acceleration and deceleration processes to achieve variable speed transmission. The transfer case mainly serves to distribute the engine power and can output power to the rear axle as needed or simultaneously to both the front and rear axles. The transmission, on the other hand, is designed to adjust the gear ratio to ensure that the engine operates at its best under various driving conditions and meets the speed requirements of all types of driving.

Secondly, from a structural perspective, the transmission box is equipped with a accommodating space inside, which houses a gear set composed of two or more gears, with one of the gears driven by a motor. The transfer case achieves the separation and connection of power through two sets of gears. The transmission is composed of two parts: the variable speed transmission mechanism and the variable speed control mechanism. The former is used to change the value and direction of torque and speed, while the latter is responsible for controlling the transmission mechanism to achieve the transformation of the transmission ratio of the transmission, that is, the gear shifting function.

Finally, in terms of application fields, transmission boxes, due to their high power, large speed ratio and high torque characteristics, are widely used in multiple fields such as printing and packaging machinery, environmental protection equipment, and chemical equipment. The transfer case has been widely adopted by many brands of agricultural machinery and has become a professional device specifically serving agriculture. The gearbox, on the other hand, mainly serves the automotive field.

In conclusion, transmission boxes, transfer cases and gearboxes all have their own characteristics in terms of function, structure and application scope, and together provide strong power support for the development of modern industry.
